At its best in its eerie beginning and hair-raising climax, Robert Wise's sci-fi thriller is based on Michael 'Jurassic Park' Crichton's first bestselling novel and has the benefit of Douglas Trumbull's classy special effects. You'll perch on the edge of the armchair as James Olson races against time (assailed by poison gas and deadly laser beams) to disarm a self-destruct device before it can trigger itself off.
