The story of the life of Christ naturally makes for a long film, and this one has a star-studded cast packed into it, including Sidney Poitier, Angela Lansbury, Telly Savalas and Charlton Heston. Directed by George Stevens, it's quite spectacular in parts, as it should be for $20million (which was a lot of money for a film in the 1960s), and has some stunning moments, although cameos from the likes of John Wayne and Pat Boone tend to intrude upon the action. Max von Sydow plays Jesus Christ and does so very credibly.
