A delightful screwball comedy of the very daftest vintage, with Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn on glittering form: he a mild-mannered, orderly paleontologist painstakingly reconstructing a priceless dinosaur skeleton, she a batty heiress with a wilful dog (the one and only Asta from the Thin Man series) who grabs a vital bone from Grant's masterpiece. In case you thought the name 'Baby' belonged to this canine, you should know that 'Baby' is another troublesome animal in Hepburn's possession: a Brazilian leopard. Glorious chaos ensues from the encounter between scientist and heiress, the dialogue sparkles and director Howard Hawks presides over the whirling insanity with evident glee. If farce pitched at hysteria level annoys you, however, this may not be your cup of tea, and it has dated rather less well than we might have hoped.
