Grim and grisly serial killer thrillers often make gripping and exciting adult entertainment, and here's a prime example, although faint hearts may find this one a bit too much.
Evisceration runs riot as a maniac murderer picks out victims who exemplify one of the seven deadly sins and puts them to death in the most gruesome and revolting ways possible, often forcing the victims to carve themselves up as the part of the slow-death punishment.
If you think this is a turnoff, wait (or don't) for the quite disgusting climax!
Morgan Freeman is outstanding as the near-retirement detective, forced to take on a young, eager partner (Brad Pitt) in his last days, and even counsel Pitt's weepy, newly pregnant wife (Gwyneth Paltrow).
There's an excitingly shot chase sequence towards the end, when the cops corner the killer, but the intense horror of it all ultimately leaves you stunned.
