Sea Of Love This tightly scripted thriller about a killer who places romantic rhyming ads in newspaper personal columns and the Fifties' hit Sea of Love on the record player at the scenes of the crimes, marked a triumphant return to movies by Al Pacino four years after his disastrous flop Revolution. His riveting performance as a burned-out New York cop clutching at a second chance at love with chief suspect Ellen Barkin is the highlight of this glossy film noir that will have you guessing down to the final double twist ending. The sexual chemistry between the two leads is a big plus, as is the atmospheric photography of British cinematographer Ronnie Taylor. Patricia Barry also scores as a much older woman who heartbreakingly picks up the wrong vibes from Pacino over lunch after answering one of his own phony ads to catch the killer. Strong, adult and good.

Sea of Love is one of my favourite Al Pacino Films. Not due to the fact it challenges his acting skills but I think it has is one where he actually challenges his stereotype. It's sexual, it's gritty, it's realistic. Some aspects we rarely see (especially nowadays) from Pacino. It's not an academy award winner but it's an interesting story with memorable performances through out.
