Rosalind Russell played the stage mother to end them all in this richly-entertaining musical (remade in 1993 with Bette Midler) about the woman whose two daughters became actress June Havoc and strip queen Gypsy Rose Lee.
The Stephen Sondheim-Jule Stein score includes Everything's Coming Up Roses, Small World and Let Me Entertain You.
Russell does some of her own singing as Mama Rose, while Natalie Wood (as Rose Louise) uses her own voice (she had been dubbed in West Side Story) to achingly good effect.
