Often described as the perfect, debonair Hollywood star, Cary Grant's sophisticated screen persona and real life charm brought him scores of big budget, high profile film offers and hundreds of thousands of devoted fans across the globe.
Audrey Hepburn summed up his iconic status to perfection the film Charade in 1963:
"Do you know what's wrong with you?" she asks "Nothing!"
Suave, polished and the star of such cinematic classics as North By Northwest; The Awful Truth and His Girl Friday, Cary Grant is a legend whose appeal has not diminished in the forty years since his heyday.
His showbiz career began with an acrobatic troupe, and eventually stage roles came his way in British theatre.
In 1932 Grant made feature film debut in a supporting role in This Is the Night, and the following year he attracted critical attention as Mae West's leading man in She Done Him Wrong and I'm No Angel.
The screwball comedy, The Awful Truth really brought Grant into the Hollywood spotlight. After this success, he never looked back. The offers came flooding in and the fan base was growing!
In 1941 Grant acted with Alfred Hitchcock for the first time in Suspicion, and a lucrative and successful professional relationship was formed.
Grant's last film was Walk, Don't Run in 1966 and he died of a stroke in Iowa at the age of 82.
