Roman Polanski manages to overplay his hand big time in this colourful buccaneering romp. Walter Matthau is notorious sea-dog Captain Red, cast adrift on a raft with only a treasure chest and 'The Frog' (Cris Campion) for company. They are rescued by a Spanish ship, but the treasure's lost... Matthau obviously enjoys himself as Captain Red, but all the other players seem pathetic caricatures. Nevertheless, it's an enjoyable, if occasionally vulgar yarn. that provides some lightweight fun.
