Tim Curry

Tim Curry

Born: April 1946
Where: Cheshire, UK

Curry will always be best remembered for the role of Dr Frank N Furter in the Rocky Horror Show, which he brought to the stage as well as the big screen.

The son of a Methodist Royal Navy Chaplain and a school secretary, he studied English at Cambridge and Birmingham Universities.

"I'm not a conventional leading man at all and have no wish to be."

He met his first stage success with the hippy musical Hair followed by work with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

He continued to work in New York and London in starring roles in Travesties, Amadeus, The Pirates of Penzance and The Rivals.

His big screen debut was 1978's The Shout with Alan Bates and roles have followed in comedies including Annie, Home Alone 2 and Scary Movie 2.

Showing a flair for action and drama films, he has also appeared in The Ploughman's Lunch, The Hunt for Red October and The Scoundrel's Wife.

His distinctive voice has lent itself to animation, including the demon in Ridley Scott's Legend as well as The Little Mermaid and The Rugrats series.

He also voiced for the TV and big screen version of The Wild Thornberrys as well as German falcon Von Talon in the British animated yarn Valiant.

Curry also starred as a cynical professor opposite Liam Neeson in the drama Kinsey in 2005.
