One of the low points in the career of five-times Oscar-nominated Glenn Close. She has dual roles in this unashamedly old fashioned romantic comedy - a hard-working secretary and the ghost of a flamboyant jazz era flapper, who inhabits her body to grab one last chance of fame in films. Harry Hamlin of L. A. Law fame makes an unbilled appearance as himself, and the film contains Ruth Gordon's last screen role, as yet another in a long line of dotty neighbours. Production values look penny-pinching on screen, which doesn't help its B-movie feel. Only Glenn makes Maxie even a close call with success.
