The second in Burt Reynolds' TV thriller films takes ex-cop B L Stryker into exotic territory when he is hired to protect a Middle Eastern queen from would-be assassins who have already murdered her arms dealer husband. But she turns out to be a childhood pal which rather stretches both his and our credulity. Fans of John D MacDonald's Travis McGee novels will note with interest the striking resemblance between McGee, a private investigator who lives on a houseboat, and Stryker, a private investigator who ... you guessed. But McGee never had a dog called Fred and was never played on screen by such a likeable rogue as Reynolds.
