Beautiful Audrey Hepburn is superb in this long but always absorbing story. A perfect balance of pace and sensitivity is struck in the tale of a young Belgian girl who becomes a nun and, after a gruelling period of training at a convent, is sent to the Belgian Congo to work in a hospital under the atheistic eye of surgeon Peter Finch. It's amazing that the film didn't win any of the eight Oscars for which it was nominated.
