Oliver Platt

Born: 12 January 1960
Where: Windsor, Ontario, Canada

Oliver grew up the son of a US diplomat, spending his childhood in the Middle East, Asia and Washington, DC.

After college, he pursued theater in the Boston area before relocating to NYC, where he acted Off-Broadway.

It was there that he caught the eye of actor Bill Murray, who recommended him to director Jonathan Demme, who cast him as Matthew Modine's wise-cracking partner in Married to the Mob.

Oliver's first co-starring role came in Joel Schumacher's Flatliners which he followed with parts in Postcards from the Edge, Beethoven and Diggstown.

After roles in the thriller Executive Decision and drama A Time to Kill, Oliver made his producing debut on Big Night.

An avid Boston Red Sox fan, Oliver gave a critically acclaimed performance as Warren Beatty's political advisor in Bulworth, before moving to lighter fare in the Eddie Murphy comedy Dr.

Platt spent his childhood in Washington DC, where his father was a diplomat; he is a second cousin of Diana, Princess of Wales.

He continued his relentless pace appearing as an obnoxious mythology professor in Lake Placid, a robot mechanic in Bicentennial Man and a gay architect in Three to Tango.

Platt started the new millennium as the hotheaded Mafia chieftain in Gun Shy, and then as a bitter, drunken professional wrestler in Ready to Rumble.

He continued working hard in movies including Don't Say a Word, Liberty Stands Still and Ash Wednesday, before appearing in romantic comedy Hope Springs.
