Alexandre Dumas Fils' famous sob-stuff tragedy, elegantly directed by George Cukor and excellently played by Greta Garbo and a very handsome Robert Taylor - no wonder she falls for him! Rex O'Malley shines in a minor role, but Garbo and Taylor are both outstanding here, playing their love scenes together with exquisite understatement. The rest of the film is always good, if seldom in the very top bracket, save in Garbo's exchanges of dialogue with Lionel Barrymore. And it still comes up fresh today.
