A so-so comic reworking of It Happened One Night with Claudette Colbert as a best-selling novelist becoming involved with a happy-go-lucky marine (John Wayne) who hates her latest book but would make a perfect leading man for the movie version she is planning in Hollywood. Colbert looks too old for her part and the script is a tired, limp affair. Director Mervyn LeRoy, who does his best to inject humour into the most familiar of set-ups, takes a bit part as do several other Hollywood names of the day, including Louella Parsons, Cary Grant and Jack Benny. Despite indifferent reviews the film was still a box office hit.
