John Wayne rarely made an impact wearing a regular suit and so it proves here in this rather unambitious Republic drama. He plays a small town lawyer who goes to the big city to prove that the death of a basketball player was actually murder. Wayne, always larger than life, usually didn't convince in life-sized roles, although he does his best here. The girl he falls for is Frances Dee and his old pal Ward Bond (someone else who looked more at home in a stetson) co-stars, too. Mild entertainment, but no more. Curiously, director John H Auer made a completely different film with the same title four years earlier. TRIVIA: Dee was the real-life wife of Wayne's pal Joel McCrea.
