The fifth film version of Anthony Hope's famous adventure story of royal impersonation in Ruritania is more swishbuckler than swashbuckler. Stewart Granger and Deborah Kerr lack spirit and James Mason is miscast as Granger's heel-clicking adversary, Rupert of Hentzau, but the story is still exciting and the final duel scene is a smasher.
