For the most part, this is a bizarre and unlovely film about homeless teenage drug dealers/users on the streets of London. Gaunt and dishevelled, Clint (Justin Chadwick), basically a dishonest charmer, is beaten up by men to whom he owes money. He resolves to get a proper job and gets a promise of work in a diner - if he can obtain a pair of new shoes. As Clint steals constantly from his immediate boss Muffdiver (Steven Mackintosh), a pair of shoes would seem an easy option. But apparently not. Dispite many unappealing aspects, the film does quite a fair job of dividing its time between a portrait of the drug generation and the story of Clint looking for shoes to steal. Sometimes the tale becomes tedious, especially when its women are involved, but the upbeat ending helps, and Chadwick and Mackintosh are fresh, newish faces who perform with enthusiasm and a degree of conviction. Settings are suitably squalid, but in London these days that's not difficult: you just take you camera into its garbage-infested streets and shoot.
