When he was presented with the script for this drama by first-time director François Dupeyron and his wife Dominique Faysse, France's leading actor, Gérard Depardieu, decided on the spot to personally back the production, and he was joined in sharing the financial risk by glamorous co-star Catherine Deneuve. It's basically a two-handed piece about a distraught bourgeois wife and a lovesick doctor who meet up at the side of a road and trade secrets and problems. Superb nocturnal photography and sassy dialogue give the film a professional gloss that belies Dupeyron's lack of experience.
