This very strange brew is an up-market chiller about a mass-murderer who may be the devil incarnate and can bend people and objects to his will. Goldblum (as the devil), Bates (as his pursuer) and Baker (as the psychiatrist unwise enough to take him on) keep the story afloat with very little help from the largely wooden acting of their international supporting cast. Just so that you can tell when Frost has got to his victims, they have crosses in their eyes: just about the director's only concession to the conventional horror movie. His general approach, however, is far from sharp and it's left to hollow-eyed character actor Vincent Schiavelli to briefly enliven the proceedings as the cigar-chewing manager of a seedy boarding house.
