A lightweight romance with Ann Harding and Laurence Olivier as the two young lovebirds. Olivier is a poverty-stricken, struggling author, but his love for Harding sustains him through the hard times. They marry, have a child and get on with life. But as time goes by, his patience wears thin and the marriage breaks up. Harding marries again on the rebound... but that's not the last twist in a story that, although prone to be overly theatrical at times, does manage to engage and entertain the whole way through.
