Round up the usual special effects suspects, there's another vampire movie in town. Though John Landis' modern stab at the dead is strictly fang-in-cheek, it throws in all the adult elements horror and video fans will enjoy: glowing eyes, gouts of blood, gorged throats, the dead come to life, topless dancers, a touch of vaguely kinky sex and enough four-letter words to make a vampire blush. Marie (Anne Parillaud) is the new lady bloodsucker on the block, but she only chomps on the bad guys. Since this is mob territory and she likes to eat Italian, there's no lack of titbits. After dinner, she blows off the meal's head with a shotgun to ensure he doesn't roam the streets after death (and dark). Marie's problems come when she a) fails to behead mobster kingpin Sal the Shark (Robert Loggia) and b) falls in lust with a good cop (Anthony LaPaglia). The question is: can she resist sinking her teeth into his neck before he's sunk his teeth into the hunt for the now-crazed Sal? Formula fans will lap it up, complete with clips from old vampire movies.
