British films spun round soccer have a notoriously chequered success rate. And this was a notable disaster. Better known in this country as Bloomfield, it's a very simple-minded piece directed by its star, Richard Harris who, faced with a schmaltzy screenplay by Wolf Mankowicz, inserts slow-motion, heavenly choirs, sunset silhouettes and an irksomely restless camera style. The Israeli locations are stunning, but dramatically this one scores only an own goal.
