This is what I suppose you could call high Gothic camp, with Richard Burton not as the Landru or Gilles de Retz of history but would you credit it, a ficticious Austrian aristocrat with a blue-tinged beard, who does away with six wives, sundry hangers-on and a cat. All his brides, being played by some of the world's loveliest actresses, try to use their shapely wiles to turn our hero on. But he, sterile soul, remains singularly aloof, apart from struggling with some unspeakable dialogue. The results are fine, perhaps, for girl-starved males, but Burton fans are likely to find themselves demanding more in the way of drama.
