Frank Langella is a perfect Count Dracula in this stylish re-telling of the Bram Stoker original that's a stunning film to look at. Langella is more than a match for Trevor (Shoestring) Eve's sheepish Jonathan Harker, Laurence Olivier's ripely sliced Van Helsing and Donald Pleasence's familiar wild-eyed doctor. Director John Badham seems more concerned with achieving striking visuals than with getting his details right: a victim's bitemarks appear on the opposite side to the bite, and a vampire doesn't reflect in a mirror but does in water.
