The former boxer first made his name as a hyperactive stand-up comic before turning to movies with Funny Bones opposite the legendary Jerry Lewis.
After two years at art school in Essex, he made his comedy breakthrough at the Edinburgh Festival and 1988 and went on to win the Perrier Award five years later.
After Funny Bones he was cast by Luc Besson as Fog in the sci-fi thriller The Fifth Element with Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman.
Next up was Gore Verbinski's family comedy Mouse Hunt before he starred alongside Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller in the Farrelly Brothers' There's Something About Mary.
Appearances followed in The Ladies' Man, the critically mauled British comedy The Martins and the romantic comedy Plots With A View with Alfred Molina.
In 2003, he teamed up with martial arts star Jackie Chan as an Interpol officer in the lacklustre The Medallion.
Upcoming projects include John Simpson's crime drama Freeze Frame with Sean McGinley.
