Woody Harrelson stars as Michael, a materialistic California doctor who is kidnapped by Blue (Jon Seda), a young tearaway Navajo with terminal cancer, and taken on a quest to find a magical lake. Blue hopes the ancient lake will offer the cure Michael can't. This is an awkward cross between a road movie and a culture clash drama, with a fair bit of Native American mysticism thrown into the pot. The ingredients don't mix terribly well, despite director Michael Cimino's best efforts. Although Harrelson and Seda's peformances manage to make their unlikely characters and motivations believable, the film itself never really arrives anywhere worthwhile.
