Barker's directorial breakthrough was heist caper The James Gang with Toni Collette and Jason Flemyng.
He followed that up with the critically-acclaimed crime thriller Best Laid Plans with Reese Witherspoon and Josh Brolin.
Barker's career began as a TV documentary maker with Eddie and the East Coast Bouffants and When The Fat Lady Sings.
TV credits also included episodes of Silent Witness and the gothic classic The Tenants of Wildfell Hall.
In 2003, he directed the English civil war drama To Kill A King with Tim Roth and Dougray Scott.
