Alien Resurrection

Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) re-awakens from death to find herself cloned by geneticists in an attempt to resurrect the alien queen, which was impregnated inside her 200 years previously. The fourth outing of the voracious extra-terrestrial killer, this saw French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet (A Very Long Engagement, Delicatessen) bring a surreal spin to the sci-fi horror series. Hellboy Ron Perlman and Winona Ryder also appear.

Alien Resurrection

This is the fourth in the excellent Alien series, and sees Sigourney Weaver return from the dead as Ripley.

Having committed suicide at the end of Alien 3 to stop The Company getting their hands on the unborn alien within her, Ripley returns 200 years later, thanks to the genetic scientists who have succeeded in cloning her and the alien creature from her DNA.

But trouble is afoot on the space station where the Ripley clone is imprisoned.

A group of space pirates (led by Michael Wincott and Winona Ryder) arrive with a cargo of sleeping humans for the scientists to use as hosts for the alien eggs they have cultivated.

But then the aliens break out of their cages...

Everything about this one is weirder than before, as you might expect from visually stylish director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, who made the great City of Lost Children, but this is great fun and full of the usual jumps among the death and destruction.

As a fan of the Alien saga, this film was everything I expected and less, sadly. As a standalone film, it's not abysmal, yet as the fourth Alien it's a bit of a letdown. The film does take a completely different approach than the first three, and the ending is fantastic. The problem is that the first two films are on a different level altogether, and people will always be critical of the last two. A decent flick nonetheless.

Well I like the Joss Whedon humour plus Ron Perlman is excellent. It's a bit clunky and the pace is ok but the last quarter really does poo in its own bed and the final creature is poor. Oh dear. Good effort but Apone still gets the cigar and we miss you, howling mad Hudson. Alien and Aliens are still my fave movies of the franchise and even Brian Glover in Alien 3 gets a good look in. Northern people in space - brilliant.

What a load of tosh!!! This film is an insult to the creative genius of its forebears. i just wish i could set up a "WARNING KEEP AWAY DISTRESS SIGNAL" (alien original) to hopefully ward off all those that stray too close to this heap of c**p!!!
