Chris Weitz
Born: 1969
Where: New York
Director and writer Chris Weitz is part of the famous Hollywood team of brothers who is best known for their work on the comedies Down To Earth and American Pie, and more recently the British hit About A Boy, starring Hugh Grant.
Chris began his media work in the UK as a freelance journalist for The Independent and the Sunday Times.
He studied at Cambridge University where he achieved an English honours degree and from where he decided to join the diplomatic corps.
It was while he was waiting for clearance to join the diplomatic corps, that Chris began collaborating with his older brother Paul on a screenplay.
The children's film Madeline was their first joint project and was produced by their uncle Pancho Kohner.
With his brother, Chris wrote the screenplay for the hit animated comedy Antz in 1998, and then the pair co-wrote an episode of the remake of the TV series Fantasy Island.
Teen comedy American Pie brought the brothers a taste of real fame (and money!) and although unaccredited, the brothers reportedly co-directed the feature.
In the year 2000 Chris took a stint in front of camera and co-starred opposite Mike White in Chuck & Buck, directed by Miguel Arteta and screened at the Sundance Film Festival that year.
In 2001 he reteamed with brother Paul to co-direct Down to Earth, a remake of Heaven Can Wait starring Chris Rock.
