Almost 20 years after they co-starred in Harry and Walter Go to New York, James Caan and Elliott Gould take key minor roles in support of Caan's son Scott as the title boy, a rebel without a cause who roams the 'hood taking potshots at billboards with a handgun. Running across an attempted rape, he finds another use for the gun, but saving the girl (Missy Crider) involved only leads to the youngsters going on the run together and deeper into trouble. Young Caan is okay and Crider has improved greatly from her earlier performances, but the film's stolen from both of them by Adam Beach as the Native American brawler who becomes their friend. Not exceptional of its type, but at least there's an unexpectedly upbeat ending.
