Another in the series of police thrillers featuring Richard Crenna's gnarled Lt Frank Janek, this time investigating a case of mass murder that seems to carry echoes of such films as Halloween. William Shatner, far from heroic mode in this one, does a good turn as an arrogant Broadway producer, and the film is intelligently directed by Robert Iscove, who engenders the right oppressive atmosphere within the walls of the murder house.
