Little Alex (Alex D Linz) keeps seeing burglars but no one will believe him. And the thieves don't know it but he's the one they want. He has a microchip - which renders missiles unstoppable - in his new toy car. Well, Alex gets chickenpox, father's away on business, his siblings are in school and mum's called to the office. He has nothing to fear from burglars, she tells him. 'What d'you mean? ' cries the kid with reason. 'There's no one home during the day. I'm only eight and I figured it out. Don't you think a grown-up crook could? ' Dialogue like this for Alex is amusingly written throughout, but he's also made a shade too self-confident and knowing. The bad guys start out in serious vein, which is good, but the nature of these things forces them to become comic in the inevitable final siege of Alex's house. The Kid's first few traps here are funny, but it all gets too easy for him by the end. STAR SPOT: A young Scarlett Johansson, since the star of The Horse Whisperer and Ghost World.
