Upon first glance, you'd be forgiven for thinking this remake of the classic Hitchcock thriller is the height of Hollywood lunacy, as it's virtually a scene-for-scene rip-off of the original.
But it's worth sticking with because Vince Vaughn is undeniably creepy as the crazy hotelier and taxidermist Norman Bates.
Anne Heche also makes a good job of Janet Leigh's old part as the thief that makes the terrible mistake of turning off the rain-swept roads at the Bates Motel while William H Macy is ideal as the all-too-snoopy investigator Arbogast.
Add to that the inclusion of colour this time and you get a brilliantly sleek, glossy and beautifully produced movie.
