Nicely set and shot by the painterly Bernardo Bertolucci, this is an extended playlet about an African woman (Thandie Newton) who, after seeing her teacher husband dragged off by the military, relocates to Rome, where she trains to be a doctor. Her landlord, an eccentric English piano tutor (David Thewlis) falls madly in love with her, says he'll do anything for her, but seemingly backs off when she tells him she wants her husband freed. There's not much to all of this, and the ending leaves the woman presumably torn between husband and landlord: make of it what you will. Fans of the stars will probably like it, however, as both are well cast.
