Danny Flynn (Daniel Day-Lewis) is a boxer just out of prison after doing 14 years for IRA activities. Returning to Belfast, he sets up a gym for boys of all religions and is keen to restart his old relationship with now-married Maggie (Emily Watson). But both ambitions incur the wrath of the venomous Harry (Gerard McSorley), an IRA leader who ran out on Danny 14 years before... Day-Lewis looks the part, in and out of the ring and, while it doesn't always grip, the film does bring home how tough reconciliation can be.
