The luminous Angela Bassett, who lights up the screen with her smile, deserves something better than this absolutely awful autumn-spring romance between 40-year-old divorcée Stella (Bassett) and 20-year-old Jamaican Winston (Taye Diggs), which seems to go on all night, the final clinch coming long after most filmgoers will have called it a day. Bassett tries (too) desperately hard to make something of it, while Diggs is just passive. Few of the situations ring true and the whole thing looks assembled in haste, even if we, the audience, are left to repent at leisure.
