Anthony LaPaglia refreshes this old-style wartime drama as Don Paolo Montale, a Tuscan priest who, after the Nazis invade, is conflicted about whether to follow his pacifist conscience or to join the Resistance. Unfortunately, the movie's unresolved script may be honorably intentioned but it often comes over as a bit of a waffly bore and, based as it is on a short story, it seems drawn out at over an hour and a half.
