Percy (James Earl Jones) could have been a contender but instead he's now training another middleweight prospect, Thunder (Courtney B Vance). And hovering nearby is Don King-like promoter Ralph Tate (Billy Dee Williams). This boxing saga is cut pretty much to formula, so you've probably sees something fairly similar before. What makes it all worth watching is the commanding Jones, who, curiously enough, got his first starring role in a movie playing legendary heavyweight Jack Johnson in The Great White Hope. An enjoyable few rounds for fans of boxing movies.
