Luc Dardenne

The breakthrough for Dardenne - together with his brother Jean-Pierre - was the movie Rosetta.

It won the Golden Palm at Cannes in 1999 and also picked up a best actress award at the same time for Emilie Dequenne.

A documentary-maker and half of the film-making team that includes his elder brother Jean-Pierre, their company Derives has produced more than 60 documentaries.

Other features produced by the brothers include Falsch in 1987, Je Pense A Vous (1992) and The Promise (1996).

The Son won a best actor award for Olivier Gourmet and a special mention - ecumenical jury prize at Cannes in 2002.
