This implausible tale, starring Randy Quaid as a convicted murderer, may sound interesting, and is indeed well-made and strongly acted. But its story is just ludicrous from beginning to end. Strapped to the electric chair, the unrepentant and obnoxious Dillon (Quaid) is frying just as a bolt of lightning hits a transformer. Dillon isn't killed and his lawyer gets a stay of execution. Why? Because Dillon now appears a changed man - and psychic to boot. Is he faking or really transformed? Embeth Davidtz plays the psychiatrist given the task of assessing the killer and to say whether he should be 'forgiven' or executed again. Despite slick production values, the disjointed approach, weak script and pointlessly violent finale spoil what could have been a much better movie.
