Director David Cronenberg's first film, made when he was a student on a budget of $3,500, is a black-and-white sci-fi drama set at the 'Canadian Institute of Erotic Inquiry' where subjects' brains are fitted with telepathic devices and then they are exposed to various drugs. The director stars as the central character, Dr Luther Stringfellow, but the overall effect is dry and emotionless. With little actual dialogue, it's of curio value only for Cronenberg completists.
