Richard Burton's features almost disappear beneath tan make-up as the enigmatic Indian doctor whose 'man of destiny' aura attracts the predatory Lana Turner. This collision between east and west leads to much soul-searching before the inevitable deluge. The script gives the actors lots of soap suds to flounder in as well as the rains of the title.
