Powerfully performed but ultimately punchless diatribe against atrocities in Vietnam. A very typical `social conscience' document of its times, the film never quite makes the same impact as the play US, on which it was based. Notable acting figures involved include Peggy Ashcroft, Paul Scofield, and Glenda Jackson, whose forceful delivery of the words of Chairman Mao is one of the highlights of the film.
