Underrated comedy film which gives Fred Astaire full play for his dazzling dancing and sophisticated humour. Reminiscent of the British film Quiet Wedding (re-made as Fools Rush In) with Astaire as the black sheep of the family, whose daughter (Debbie Reynolds) is about to get married. Astaire worked out his dance routines in collaboration with Hermes Pan, the dance director who masterminded almost all of his classic film dances of the Thirties with his most famous partner, Ginger Rogers. Not that the ladies in this witty comedy are forgotten. Miss Reynolds gets the chance to wear 30 different costumes. And those for Lilli Palmer created something of a record - by being designed at long distance. Multi-Oscar-winning designer Edith Head, a Hollywood legend, had worked on Miss Palmer's costumes on a previous film, But Not For Me. As the star was living in West Germany, Miss Head sketched out her designs, and sent them to Miss Palmer, who approved them and had her own dressmaker make minor alterations. When she arrived in California for filming, she found her wardrobe a perfect fit.
