Even though its story is involved and rambling, the approach by talented director Thorold Dickinson, who made Next of Kin and The Queen of Spades, makes this a fascinating story of political intrigue which builds up to a tense climax. Some of its content is reminiscent of Hitchcock's 1937 thriller Sabotage. And then, of course, there is the actress playing the younger of the two refugee sisters who become involved in the plot. It was Audrey Hepburn's first major role - and she never looked back.
