Adapted from one of Edison Marshall's huge, swashbuckling romantic novels, this gave Tyrone Power one of the last of his dashing early roles before he enlisted for war service. Set in the late 18th century, it provides solid escapist fare. The central section in the Polynesian islands sags a bit, but there's always Gene Tierney's glamorous native charmer for compensation. One of the few films that might actually benefit from being colourised!
