Director Delbert Mann's best known work is the Oscar-winning Marty, but he specialises in TV movies, first with a series based on literary classes, and more recently domestic dramas, of which this is the first. Taking as its theme illegitimacy, it is a poignant story, well told, and all the more moving for the central performance of Barbara Barrie (nominated for an Oscar in 1979 for Breaking Away) as a mother whose past, in the shape of an unwanted child, catches up with her.
