Solidly entertaining biopic of American nightclub entertainer Joe E Lewis, who started out in the Prohibition Twenties as a singer. After a gangster's razor put paid to any dreams of stardom in that direction, the bitter and disillusioned Lewis began an entirely new career as a sourly wisecracking comedian. Frank Sinatra gives a dramatic performance of total conviction in this demanding role, supported by a trio of lovely ladies in Mitzi Gaynor, Beverly Garland and Jeanne Crain. He also finds time to sing All the Way and Chicago.
