Princess Grace of Monaco insisted on a script revision before she would give her blessing to this account of her life, from her teenage years and film career to her marriage to Prince Rainier. She was killed in a car crash while the production was before the cameras, so we will never know if it was her intention to keep reality at arm's length, presenting her story as a lightweight confection. But this is what we have. In the title role, Cheryl Ladd gives a dignified performance even if she can't come anywhere near Grace's actual voice. The casting of Ian McShane as the prince adds to the fanciful air, although veteran Lloyd Bridges makes a credible Jack Kelly.
